- Develops and administers ongoing testing protocols for disease monitoring, disease susceptibility and prevention, and vaccination programs

- Monitors bird performance and recommends adjustments in programs, policies and procedures to improve performance in a safe and cost-effective manner

- Suggests feed changes to increase egg production or bird growth; designs and schedules flock rotations, pullet movements, and chick procurement schedules

- Provides in-house veterinary services; observes weekly location schedules visits to advise and consult with pullet and production managers on bird health and disease prevention.

- Responds with urgency in trouble shooting bird health and disease issues that may arise; identifies problems and develops solutions

- Identifies risks to bird health and care and advises pullet and production managers on necessary improvements;

- Humanely culls undesirable birds from flocks

- Develops, implements and manages training of Bird Technicians, Pullet and Production employees on animal health and welfare policies and procedures, including but not limited to vaccination, humane euthanasia, bird handling, beak treatment, and disease monitoring and prevention; develops necessary SOPs

- Advises the Operations Leadership Team on technical questions related to feed safety and animal care programs, program compliance and bio-security

- Remains informed on animal healthcare advances and best practices; communicates opportunities for improvement to appropriate managers and leaders, while respecting the integrity of the Rembrandt programs and procedures

- Networks, collaborates and builds strong relationships with other poultry veterinarians, the Poultry Advisory

- Consulting Committee, vendors, academic and industry experts to identify, target and prioritize opportunities that support Rembrandt Foods’ strategies

Candidate Requirements

- Accredited DVM, preferably with focus on poultry in veterinary school and/or 3-5 years of field experience with poultry; Licensure in necessary states or the ability to acquire a license

- Relevant experience in live animal production (Layers, Broilers, or Turkeys)

- Experience in investigating disease or health care issues and recommending solutions

- Experience designing nutrition and feed programs in the poultry industry

- Knowledge of regulatory requirements (e.g., USDA, APHIS guidelines) relating to the care and keeping of animals in captivity

- Demonstrated ability to translate/interpret laws, rules, regulations and practices to convey an appropriate course of action

- Ability to effectively communicate with all staff levels, Board of Directors, senior and middle management

- Ability to read, understand and effectively communicate information through writing and speaking so others will understand

- Requires an individual who is highly professional, motivated, persistent, and helpful, who is able to gain cooperation through expertise, credibility, and building positive working relationships

- Ability to lead, offer ideas, make decisions and teach/coach others

- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

- Independent Self-Starter/Team Payer

- Computer Skills-Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, Internet

- Essential functions of the job require teamwork and strong interpersonal skills
